STONE SOUR are excited to announce that drum wizard Mike Portnoy will be joining them behind the kit for a one-off upcoming show at the world renowned ‘Rock In Rio’ Festival on 24th September.
The band’s regular drummer, Roy Mayorga, is currently home and anxiously awaiting the birth of his first daughter (due the very same day as Stone Sour’s Rio show). Roy personally asked his friend Mike Portnoy to fill in for what is sure to be a special ‘once in a lifetime’ event for the fans in attendance. Said Mike, “It's my honor and pleasure to be able to help out my good friends in Stone Sour and my brother Roy in their time of need. It's also an unexpected treat for me to get another visit with some of the greatest fans in the world down in Brazil.” Frontman Corey Taylor added: “We've been waiting a long time for the opportunity to come to South America. This year's Rock in Rio should be fantastic. With Roy expecting his first child, we'll charge on without him, but having Mike fill in for this one show will be great. We can't wait to take the stage and lay it down the only way Stone Sour knows how- full on and in your face!"
Plans are afoot for a special EP/DVD release from STONE SOUR this Winter, along with a special MP3 giveaway via STONE SOUR’s Facebook page. Stay tuned for full details soon.

@Fender4Life: The DVD will feature the Brighton show of 2010, not this show so Roy will be on the DVD :)

What an amazing suprise! Most everyone will agree that Mike will do Roy the justice He deserves. Honestly though, I know it's been said a lot already, but I'm very happy to know that Mikes' filling in because of something beautiful (the birth of a child), and not because of Roys' health. To Roy: don't even think for a second that your being replaced. And finally, as far as the DVD is concerned, it bothers me that people would rather have Mike Portnoy sitting on the drum throne for the DVD. Roy has spent his career building up such an amazing talent that he should, without a doubt, have the honor of being the drummer in the DVD. IF ANYTHING, Mikes' fill in performance should be bonus....."IF ANYTHING". Trust me people will have videos of Portnoy playing with Stone Sour, but Roy deserves the DVD "HANDS DOWN!"

At first, I was afraid it was of health issues. Thank God that's not the reason. I wish Corey and Cassie all the best, all the love and all the joy with their first daughter :)
